You built a website. Then life got busy.
Maybe you paid someone good money to build it. Maybe you built it yourself with more patience than know-how. Either way, it's out there right now, doing... something. You're just not sure what.
And somewhere along the way, the person who built it stopped answering emails. Or you got a WordPress update notification and clicked "remind me later" for the eleventh time. Or you tried to add a new page and ended up staring at the back end like it was written in a language you were never taught — because, honestly, you weren't.
None of that is your fault. Nobody sat you down and taught you this stuff. You've been busy running a business.
That's where I come in
I'm Karen Leslie — your WordPress Fairy Godmother. Before WordPress, I was already in IT: first as a programmer, then an analyst programmer, working for and with some genuinely well-known names across Europe. When I moved to Australia the Global Financial Crisis meant I had to make a change. I'd already been building a few websites as a hobby, now it was time to turn it into a business. I moved from simply building beautiful WordPress websites to making sure they actually did something, because I kept meeting brilliant businesswomen with gorgeous websites but the websites weren't doing anything for their business.
I'm a geek, but I speak in plain English, not jargon. My business is there is to look after the technical and strategic side of your website so you can get back to the work you actually love.
You stay in control. Always.
Here's what I believe: your website should be part of your business plan, aligned with your goals and working for you. It should not be a guilty item on your to-do list. Once you've paid for it, it's yours. I can advise, I can suggest, but the decisions are always yours to make.
There's no judgement here for what you don't know. You're an expert in your own field and you were never taught WordPress, and honestly, it was probably never your dream to learn it. My 18 years in WordPress (as a designer, problem-solver, and strategist) means I've seen every version of "I think I broke something," and I promise you, it's usually fixable.
I'm methodical. I don't know any other way to be. I'll admit it: I'm a bit of a control freak and a perfectionist, but that shows up as putting *you*, the business owner, in control, not me. I'm a small business owner myself, so I treat you the way I want to be treated, with respect.
Just know, when you are a client of mine, I'm always on your side. We work in partnership.
A little more personal....
My Dad was a black Jamaican man, and my Mum a white English woman, and I grew up in Souff (that how we pronounced South) London, in England.
Sometimes I joke that I married an Irishman because Irish was one of the few nationalities we *didn't* already have in the family. Our extended family also includes Nigerian, Barbadian, American, Swedish, and Danish.
My husband and I came to Australia for what was meant to be the trip of a lifetime and we thought that we were never, ever coming back. We fell in love with the place. Leaving my parents behind was the hardest part, though they've made plenty of trips out to see us over the years, and I taught my Mum how to use Skype, so we could chat and see each other.
These days we live on 8 acres in regional Australia. We love the native birdlife and wildlife so much that we've never had pets of our own. Most mornings you'll find me out taking a photo of the sunrise, and filming the kangaroos who share our property with us.
I'm also a reader with romance, sci-fi and fantasy are my favourite genres. I've also been a writer for years and I've started writing romance stories of my own. One day, I might even finish one!

Evolution of my business
2008-07-01
Mount Gambier Website Design
My first business in Australia is created. I created WordPress Websites for local businesses in and around Mount Gambier.
However I started doing more than web design, including maintenance and training for the websites I created.
2020-01-01
KISS WP Websites
KISS (Keep It Simple Sweetheart) has always been my motto.
This business was a move away from web design for start ups to working with established businesses who were struggling with their existing WordPress websites.
Services such as WTF, Strategic Web Review, WP Website Health Check were created.

Karen Leslie WPFG
I decided to come out from behind my laptop and move into my WP Fairy Godmother phase. It was a name my clients had given me a couple of years ago and I decided to fully embrace it.
I still work with established businesses who use WordPress for their website.
