As I was reflecting that a week ago I was travelling home from the last ever Heart Centred Business Conference, I realised that there was some “do as I say not as I do” going on.
I'd told a couple of women there that I love it when they do videos that are a bit ranty, passionately connecting with us.
If you didn’t know I do weekly Facebook lives on my page.
Do I tend to do that on my FB lives? No or rarely.
Except when I got up to do my real reel, which was a 3 minute talk on website strategy, I heard myself say I'm going off script followed by the words “It pisses me off”.
Yes I said that in front of about 70 business women live on stage.
The moment I looked around the room, I knew I had to get my point across. It was still the same topic but presented in a “ranty” way.
While I was hugging and congratulating the other real reel speakers, I was silently berating myself because of what I said. However, attendees were congratulating me on how I spoke with passion, how they understood what I was saying and four signed up for free consultations immediately.
My 3 minute talk wasn't perfect in my eyes yet it connected.
It wasn't the speech that I had planned yet it connected. I didn't hold back. I didn't blame. I told the reality of what I'm seeing that websites are letting business women down without them doing anything wrong.
My first line was “You’re doing everything and yet your website is still not working for you”.
Now the incredible business women I've had sessions with are telling attendees how good their session with me was and I have others registering for free consultation with me.
I'm good at what I do. It feels like bragging when I say that which is probably why you won't often hear me say it.
Others tell me I'm good although I doubt it before every single live meeting I have because most of the time I don't know what I'm going to be asked about.
I doubt myself and yet I still do it and I want to do more of it.
Connecting and solving WordPress website issues, or strategy issues, lights me up in a way that other things don't.
I still can't believe that I said “it pisses me off” live on stage.
What would you say to connect with your audience if you were to get ranty?
Is that on your website?
Once I have the video of my 3 minute speech it will be on my website.
Why? Because it connected with people, no matter what I think I looked like, no matter what I think I should have said instead, it made an impact.
Here is the original "unranty" version.
Let me know what you would say by dropping me an email. If we have a similar audience maybe we could get together for a “ranty” talk.
